Open Cathode LT-PEM Fuel Cell
Subcategory (under Clean Energy): Hydrogen
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): TRL 4 - Early prototype
Technology Outline (Process Description)
Hydrogen utilization technology viz open cathode low temperature PEM fuel cell (OCFC) stack to provide a solution that is characterized by higher efficiency, low noise and vibrations, smaller footprint and lower emissions as compared to diesel generators for electricity generation.
Salient Features/Advantages
Self-humidified operation to eliminate expensive, complex external humidification
Robust performance with (i) low-to-no fuel and oxidant humidity, (ii) low air pressure component for oxidant and cooling supply and (iii) uniform mass-and-heat transfer
Key Outcomes
- Advanced Membrane electrode assembly with novel flow field design
- CFD assisted duct design for uniform flow and temperature distribution
- 1 kW self-humidified fuel cell technology
