Technology Outline (Process Description)

The system consists of three reactors of identical design configured with 6 embedded cooling tubes each. SS316 sintered porous filter is located at centre of the reactor to facilitate gas transfer to/from the reactor. Each bed space is filled with La0.9Ce0.1Ni5, LaNi5 and LaNi4.7Al0.3 with suitable arrangement of cold and hot fluid supply line, a plurality of HTF, gas valves and gas tight circuit. The process includes supplying the impure gaseous mixture in an alloy bed to absorb hydrogen at a pressure from 5 bar to 20 bar and absorption temperature from 20 °C to 30 °C, flushing remaining gases at a temperature from 10 °C to 20 °C, and releasing the hydrogen at a desorption temperature from 80 °C to 95 °C. The developed system is capable of separating hydrogen with even at 90% impurity, and can deliver 99.999% pure hydrogen. However, the system has limitations for an impurity like CO, O2 and moisture.
