Development of integrated technologies for CO2 reduction to value added products
Subcategory (under Clean Energy): CCU
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): TRL 5-6
Technology Outline (Process Description)
- JNCASR Bengaluru Successfully developed a Pilot scale plant of 30 kg CO 2 /day capacity and was operated successfully for a continuous period of 40
- A stable CO 2 conversion of 34% and methanol selectivity of 75 % was achieved throughout the long- term operation period without any decay in catalytic activity and selectivity.
Salient Features/Advantages
- Integration of unit operations to find an optimum solution of pure products from anthropogenic CO2 and H2 from water electrolysis at pilot scale of capacity 250 Kg/day of CO2 and to optimization of parameters such as flow rate, catalyst loading, reaction temperature etc for the reaction.
- Designing calculations of unit operations such as methanol distillation unit integrated with the pilot scale reactor for purity of commercial grade methanol, minimization of energy consumption, emissions to achieve carbon negative technology.
- Development of efficient, chemically and mechanically stable and cost-effective catalysts for CO 2 reduction into methanol
Key Outcomes
- JNCASR Bengaluru has developed an efficient, cost effective and chemically stable catalyst at lab scale for CO2 reduction reaction. The integration of all the unit i.e. carbon capture, water electrolyser, reactor, distillation unit and recycle unit has been successfully done. Metal based catalysts materials has also been developed.
