Design and Development of Solar Trigeneration System for Solar Process Heating System
Subcategory (under Clean Energy): Cross Cutting
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): TRL 7 - Pre-commercial demonstration
Technology Outline (Process Description)
Solar Trigeneration System is more appropriate for industries to save the environment with thermo-economic benefits. Technological development in the industrial sectors by renewable energy is increasing the sustainability of the industries. The solar trigeneration system is designed and developed for the capacity of 42kWt to provide heating (i.e., used for process heating process), cooling (i.e., used for the cooling process), and potable water production (i.e., used for drinking purposes). While integrating three processes, the thermo-economic efficiency of the process is increased drastically. The energetic and exergetic efficiences of the developed solar trigeneration system was found as 70.37% and 38.16%, with primary energy saving and saving energy index of 30.21% and 57.39%. Further, the economic advantage of the developed system is 42.60% higher than the conventional system (i.e., existing in markets). The demand rate primary energy saving is less than 1, strongly supporting the trigeneration system to replace the conventional systems in industries with economic-environmental benefits. The developed system may be suitable for following process heating industries such as dairy, pharmaceutical, plastic, and textile industries.
