National Centre for Carbon Capture and Utilisation (NCCCU), JNCASR Bengaluru
Subcategory (under Clean Energy): CCU
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): TRL 4
Technology Outline (Process Description)
Among the major objectives of the proposed Center of Excellence (CoE) at JNCASR, Bengaluru going to be established with DST’s support is the creation of centre with scientific knowledge, and technology expertise in areas of Carbon Capture, and Utilization (CCU). In addition to carrying out HRD activities (like attending conferences, organizing seminars, mutual visits, public awareness programs, consultations etc), the experimental development and demonstration of technologies for CO2 capture, utilization and storage are indicators of the quality, capability and utility of the CoE to Indian academia, industry & society. Since the CoE is funded by the DST
Salient Features/Advantages
- Electrochemical CO2 reduction Setup: The cathode and anode compartment of the flow cell was connected with two separate peristaltic pump for the flow of In the cathode section there is a gas compartment. The inlet of the gas compartment was connected with a mass flow controller (MFC) to regulate the flow rate of gas and the outlet was connected to a GC, which will analyze post catalytic gas mixture.
- Biomass derived activated carbon shows record high CO2 capture efficiency i.e. 9.78 mmol/g.
Key Outcomes
The Centre has developed methanol based catalysts and materials for syngas production from CO2. Moreover, a CuNiIn/TiO2-SBA-c-oxid based catalyst is developed with 83% syngas selectivity at a temperature of 300°C and a pressure of 45 Bar. The team has entered into an Agreement with Sud-Chemie to scale up the catalyst production.
