Community Radio – added to MSD

Subcategory (under Clean Energy): Cross Cutting
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): TRL 4 - Early protptype
Technology Outline (Process Description)

The Micro Solar Dome (MSD) is a day and night lighting single device unique in its features, that has a transparent semi-spherical upper dome made of acrylic material which captures the sunlight and the light passes through a sun tube having a thin layer of highly reflective coating on the inner wall of the passage. It also contains a lower dome made of acrylic which houses LEDs. MSDs can be more useful if we can incorporate FM radio module with it. This addition will function as a medium for providing weather related news, especially to coastal communities.

The FM radio module is a small attached unit with the MSD having a rating of 5V, 100mA. There are two configurations of the FM radio unit, first, fixed frequency unit, this unit serves the purpose of providing daily relevant information/news to the beneficiaries in local language, and it is developed for those areas which are vulnerable to natural calamities. Second, the remote control unit, this unit serves the purpose of awareness/entertainment by providing daily information. First configuration do not have user based on-off control and is fixed at local news channel frequency whereas second configuration has user based remote control with extra features like LED seven segment display, and supports Bluetooth/ USB/ MP3/ AUX/ SD card.
