November 2015

Mission Innovation Established

Mission Innovation (MI) – A global initiative of 23 countries and the European Union to dramatically accelerate global clean energy innovation (Announced at COP21 November 2015).

2015 - 2020

Mission Innovation 1.0

India participated in all MI challenges and co- led: Smart Grids, Off-Grid Electricity Access, and Sustainable Bio-fuels.

Department of Biotechnology (DBT) was the country focal point.

2021 - 2030

Mission Innovation 2.0

MI 2.0, launched on 2 June 2021 focus on research, development and demonstration to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible for all.

Reaching Tipping points in the cost and scale of clean energy solutions with a strengthened focus on Large Scale Demonstration and Pathways to deployment. Department of Science and Technology (DST) is the focal point since Dec 2022.
